Closet Transitions: Winter to Spring

This is one of my favorite times of the year. We still have the coziness of Winter and a fresh, bright Spring is on the horizon. Days are getting longer and after cleaning out last year’s closet, my wardrobe is in a lovely transition.

My big, burly coats are going back into storage but my comfy sweaters and wool blazers still get to play. I try to brighten up a darker winter wardrobe with fresh whites and sun-kissed pinks. Warm cognacs offset winter grays.

These fitted cropped JCrew pants are somewhere in-between slacks and a legging. I love their versatility. They work well in the spring with heels or tucked into riding boots for a snowy winter day.

Silk is a lovely fabric – it keeps you toasty in the winter, but is light enough for the warmer months, too. Flattering when fitted or flowy, silk is a favorite closet staple. And it doesn’t have to break the bank either – the Everlane silk tops are so reasonable at $80 each that you can really stock up on the basics. I’ve replaced almost all my synthetic button-downs with silk ones already!

A versatile pair of leggings can transition well between seasons. My favorite is a faux leather look, sleek enough to wear under dresses and substantial enough to wear as a pant.

Black skinnies and a basic tee never go out of style in any season – it’s the perpetual uniform of the French girl. I add a heavy coat in the winter and switch to this lighter wool blazer (on sale!) as the temps pick up. You can even get away with heels sooner if you slip on an extra layer of nude nylons under the whole look.
