Everyday {Parisian} Uniform

Before the release of their spring silk and shirts collection, Everlane asked Instagram to .

Both collections stem from the idea of an everyday uniform. We believe everyone has one.

It got me thinking about the everyday Parisian uniform and its essential pieces. Browsing some shots of Emanuelle Alt and Paris street fashion, it’s not so hard to see a trend.

The Parisian lady’s everyday uniform pairs black, white, or denim skinny pants with a ballet flat or a sharp leather stiletto. Her top is looser fitting, possibly paired with a boyfriend blazer, a vintage leather jacket, or classic trench. Her hair unbrushed, down or in an unkempt bun and her makeup subtle, with one dramatic red lip or a winged liner.

All her pieces seem to go together but never match, as if they were just picked up off the floor this morning and thrown on effortlessly. The Parisian lady has better things to do.

If you want to achieve this everyday Parisian look in your hometown, here are some pieces to accumulate, mix, and match:

Black Stilettos (Go for the Loubies – You’ll wear black heels with everything, so make sure you LOVE them)
Ballet Flats, leather (These shoes are made for walking, so find a super comfy pair that wont make your feet sweat)
Loose-Fitting Silk Tops (My favorites are from Everlane and run only $55-80 a blouse)
Skinny Pants (These Minnie pants from J.Crew are my favorites – they fit like a legging, but look like a pant – belt loops and all!)
Classic Trench (You can wear it to the grocery store, you can wear it to the opera)
The “All in One” Bag (Fits your laptop and your lipgloss; leather wears in well over time)
Boyfriend Blazer (When you can’t find a vintage one or raid your boyfriend’s closet, I love the fit of these J.Crew jackets)
Two-Toned Boots (Goes with black, goes with brown)

What’s in your everyday uniform? Will you start to incorporate some of these Parisian staples? Let me know in the comments!
